Dr. Roselyne Okech Receives Female Researchers Award

Dr. Roselyne Okech has received the Female Researchers Award at the 16th Annual Scientific Conference of Montenegrin Sports Academy "Sport, Physical Activity and Health: Contemporary Perspectives" (April 2019). Held in Dubrovnik, Croatia, the conference had 222 delegates, including 72 women, from 42 Countries. Dr. Okech presented a paper entitled Sustainable Sport Hunting Tourism in Newfoundland and Labrador: Focus on the Moose.

Sobey Art Award Longlist D'Arcy Wilson, Philippa Jones, and Logan MacDonald

Our congratulations to Grenfell Campus Professor D'Arcy Wilson, Eastern Edge Director Philippa Jones, and Logan MacDonald for their inclusion on the 2019 longlist for the Sobey Art Award.

Visual arts student Emily Hayes won a regional BMO 1st award.

Double math and physics major Dylan Ruth was awarded a University Student Summer Internship Program (USSIP) in 2019 to work on topics in mathematical logic and abstract algebra. He has since started his M.Sc. in applied mathematics at the University of Waterloo.

In 2019 several graduate students participated in Grenfell's Three Minute Thesis (3MT®). 3MT is a research communication competition that gives students three minutes to present a compelling oration on their thesis and its significance. In 2019, the winner was Muhammad Farhain and Steve Hextall was runner up. Eight students in total took part. Mr. Farhain went on to compete in the Memorial University 3MT competition.

Heather Spicer (Memorial University), winner (Poster) - Entomological Society of Canada President's Prize Winner and SERG International (Spray Research Efficacy Group) Graduate Student Award

Visual arts alumna Meagan Musseau had major exhibitions across Canada in 2019.

Visual arts alumna Jane Walker is the director of Union House Arts in Port Union, Bonavista, which opened in 2019. It has become one of the most important contemporary arts spaces in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Visual arts alumnus Jordan Bennett exhibited in 2019 at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and at the National Gallery of Canada.
